Orders arrive as tickets. You always work on the top ticket. Serve at least the day's quota before closing time. If too many customers walk out, the day is over early.
1. Frost. Pick the buttercream color on the ticket, then drag across the cake to spread it. Or hold Space (or the Hold button) and the turntable spins while the spatula works for you.
2. Pipe. Pick the piping color, then follow the dotted guides. For dots, press and hold on each guide dot - hold longer for a bigger rosette, but not too long. For rings, drag along the dotted line. Prefer help? Turn the turntable on: the cake spins under a fixed piping tip and you hold Spacethe Hold button to squeeze. On dot rings the turntable waits while you squeeze.
Side work: garland swags. Some orders ask for swags - strings of frosting that drape around the side of the cake. Switch to Sides (4) and the cake stands up and turns slowly. When an anchor dot reaches the piping tip, press and hold. Keep holding as the cake turns, and let go when the next anchor dot arrives. Longer strings sag deeper, so letting go on time keeps every swag even. Hold far too long and the string falls off. Take off a bad swag with the "Take off last swag" button or U.
3. Serve. The customer compares your cake to the picture on their ticket. A cake with zero stars gets refused, and that customer walks out.
Your tub is limited. The tub in the corner of the cake board shows what is left, and the dashed line on it shows roughly how much the cake you are working on still needs. If the line is above the buttercream, you will run out - mix more first. Tap the tub (or the Mix button) to mix, but the mixer takes a few seconds and you cannot decorate while it runs.
Listen for whistling. John wanders toward your cake. Shoo him (J, the Shoo button, or tap him) before he gets there. If he pokes the frosting, you have to scrape all of it off and start over. The cake dome keeps him out, but you cannot work under it.
